We arrived in Burns, Oregon early afternoon. After a quick lunch we were on the lookout for the sandhill cranes at Lake Malheur. This is a very shallow lake towards the end of the migration flyway; unfortunately for us, it was completely dry when we arrived and there were no birds present. We were able to find different birds in the surrounding area. The above pic is of breeding white face ibis, very colourful. At the Lake Malheur refuge we also saw prairie dogs.

Glad to see you found some Sandhill Cranes. If you want to see more, come to the cottage this summer, we generally have them up there. ;)

Neat, not sure why they call them white face ibis, they look kind of brown but can't really see their heads.
