Our drive to Crater Lake was beautiful. Everything was so green, the North Umpqua River was beside us for half the trip. Kevin oohed and aahed over the rapids the whole drive. We did see many clear cut areas and a number of burnt areas from the wildfires over the past few years. It is amazing that some of the trees are still growing.

Crater Lake did not disappoint. The water is so blue and so calm. The reflection of the surrounding mountains on the lake is beautiful. It’s the inside of a volcano. 1949 ft deep. Annual snowfall is 395 inches (605 in the 1930’s). Because of all the snow only the west entrance was open. They hope to have the other roads cleared by the end of June. We were only able to view the lake from this entrance and one mile down the road. There are hiking trails once the snow melts but even walking around the rim we were sinking in a foot.

We then started on our 3 hour drive back….only to find out that Kevin had more waterfall discoveries in mind. Clearwater and Watson. When I decided I’d had enough of waterfalls for a while.
